Vail R.F.C. holds fundraiser Saturday
VAIL – The Vail Rugby Football Club is made up of big guys on the pitch – and off it.The team is stepping up Saturday at 3 p.m. for a fundraiser at The Sandbar in West Vail to raise money for the children of former teammate Mike “Kiwi” Wilson who passed away this fall.
Wilson is survived by his wife, Sheri, and two children, Rebecca, 3 and Jake, 1.”We hope to help the family out by raising money for Rebecca and Jake,” Vail rugby veteran Phil Bennett said. “It’s obviously a very difficult time for Sheri and the kids and the Vail R.F.C. wants to do whatever it can to provide for the kids. All the proceeds of the event will go toward a fund for the kids’ education and upbringing.”
Donations will be taken at the door, and attendees are encouraged to empty their wallets. There will be beer and food while it lasts.”Vail Rugby is a family,” said Sue Tarpey, wife of long time player, Greg. “It’s important that we look after everyone involved with the team. I know that we can’t replace the loss of Kiwi, but what we can do is help Rebecca and Jake. We can hopefully raise a lot of money to make sure their future is secure.”
Toward that end, there will be an auction at the fund raiser. Up for bid are Broncos-Raiders tickets, as well as gifts donated by Ruggs Benedict, Scotch on the Rockies, Season Thymes, B.C. Gear, Pazzo’s, Russell’s Restaurant, Los Amigos, Zach’s Cabin, Beano’s, Saddle Ridge, Tavolaccio, Luca Bruno, and Outwest Limo.
