Vail Rec District hosts Olympic medalist Jim Ryun

VAIL, Colorado- The Vail Recreation District (VRD) will host two lecture sessions with one-time world-record holder and 1968 Olympic silver medalist Jim Ryun on Saturday at the Beaver Creek Lodge.

Ryun is best-known for running record paces in the 1,500-meter run and mile in the 1960s. His lecture will offer runners techniques to improve their times, include information about stretching, weight training, nutritional information, race strategy and more, as well as question and answer sessions.

Ryun competed in the 1,500-meter run at the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Olympics, won the silver medal in the 1968 Olympics in the 1,500, set a world record time of 3 minutes, 51.1 seconds for the mile in 1966 and another record time of 3:33.1 in the 1,500 in 1967. He has been a running coach since 1972 and is excited to share information with Eagle County runners.



There will be two group sessions, one taking place for ages 17 and younger from 9-11:45 a.m. and the other taking place for ages 18 and older from 1-3:45 p.m. Costs are $40 for those 17 and younger or $69 for those 18 and older.
