Vail Recreation District’s High Country Hoops program open for registration through Feb. 8

High Country Hoops is a program by the Vail Recreation District for kids to learn about basketball fundamentals and what it means to be a good teammate.

Registration is open for the Vail Recreation District High Country Hoops after-school basketball program, open to girls and boys in first through fifth grade.

High Country Hoops takes place on Tuesdays from Feb. 19 to April 2 for first- and second-graders, and on Thursdays from Feb. 14 to March 21 for third-, fourth- and fifth-graders.

The first half of each session will focus on skill building and the second half will be spent implementing those skills in a game setting. This program is for kids to learn about basketball fundamentals and what it means to be a good teammate.

Tuesday sessions take place from 4 to 5:15 p.m. and Thursday sessions take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Homestake Peak School in Eagle-Vail.

Cost is $75 per participant, however volunteer coaches are needed and coaches’ kids play for free. Visit http://www.vailrec.com/register to sign up. Registration closes Feb. 8.

Pro triathlon event to return as 3-day endurance festival in Avon

Major League Triathlon will return to Harry A. Nottingham Park Sept. 6-8, 2019, bringing with it a three-day festival featuring running, cycling and swimming competitions for all ages and abilities, as well as two days of free concerts, kids zones, food vendors, an interactive expo, a beer and wine garden and more.
