ELBERT – The season finale of the Colorado High School Cycling League mountain bike series saw another top finish for the Vail Valley Comp Team, as local riders took the podium for the third time this season, placing second in team points at the State Championships at Peaceful Valley last Sunday.

Eight of the nine VVCT riders placed in the top 10 of their respective categories, and the brother and sister combo of Heidi and Christian Kloser both finished first in their categories, helping the team to finish second for the second time in the four-race series.

“Our first season of High School Cycling League racing was a real success, the dedication and hard work our riders put in to train and compete really showed and I am so proud of all of our riders,” said coach Jay Henry. “I think we’ll see even more riders come out for high school mountain bike racing next season, after seeing the success and fun we had as a team this fall,” said Henry.

The Vail Valley Comp Team includes seniors Heidi Kloser, Cristhian Ravelo and Zachary Ziolkowski of Vail Ski Academy, juniors Christian Kloser (Vail Ski Academy) and Christian Shanley and Brinton Barry of Battle Mountain. Sophomores include Caleb Krueger of Eagle Valley and Carsyn Bock of Battle Mountain. Freshman Parker McDonald of Battle Mountain rounds out the nine member team.

The Halloween day State Championships race was well attended with 150 competitors riding a fast and technical course through Ponderosas and open meadows at the Peaceful Valley Scout Camp in Elbert. This was a record field for the Colorado High School Cycling League 2010 series.

The race was the fourth and final event of the League’s inaugural season, which saw about 190 individual students race at least once.
