Vail Skiers earn top-25 finishes in Nor-Am

In this year’s first Nor-Am downhill at Lake Louise, Alberta, last Thursday, three Vail skiers place in the top-25.U.S. Ski Team and Ski & Snowboard Club Vail skier Juli Littman narrowly missed the podium in the season’s first Nor Am Downhill held in Lake Louise, Alberta Canada with a time of 1:52.51, good for fourth place.Starting in the 39th start position, Battle Mountain High School and Vail Valley Academy student and Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s Erika Ghent blazed to a 19th place finish in her first Nor-Am Downhill race. Vail’s Alyssa Cartmill followed 0.7 second behind Ghent in 25th position. Cartmill started with the 36 bib.FreestyleThe Ski and Snowboard Club Vail Freestyle Team junior and ability mogul skiers started the 2005-2006 competition season with a bang last weekend at the season opener at Winter Park. With heavy snow, howling winds and sub-zero temperatures, the team came out strong with great skiing in both open mogul events on Saturday and Sunday. Standout performances on Saturday included a 10th place overall finish from Heidi Kloser and a 17th place overall finish for Matt Dillon with a stacked field in town for the U.S Freestyle Selections. Sunday was even better, with three Vail girls in the top-10. Kloser took third overall with her first-ever podium in a USSA Open Moguls event. Kelsey Teran was sixth, and recent Devo Freestyle move up Kristi Waring looked strong with a ninth place finish. Matthew White also had a strong showing on Sunday, qualifying for the second run and finishing 30th overall and first in the J3 age group.
