Vail Valley preps: Huskies top Durango, 9-1
DURANGO – The bus trip from Durango took only two or three hours Friday night for the Battle Mountain boys lacrosse team.
The ride back from the Four Corners area is always shorter after a win.
The Huskies moved to 3-2 by downing Durango, 9-1, Friday after afternoon for what coach Seth Jones considered his team’s first road win of the season.
“After a six-hour trip with a such a young team, it was great to get a road victory like this,” he said. “It was also good to bounce back after a loss.”
Technically, the Huskies won at Gypsum against Eagle Valley earlier this month, but a 30-minute drive to Gypsum doesn’t quite feel like a road trip after playing in a town where an errant shot might bounce into New Mexico.
Timmy Licciardi led the way with four goals and two assists. That’s his third four-goal game and each quartet has been in a Battle Mountain win. Josh Rosenbach added to the onslaught with two goals and two assists.
Christian Nichols got his first goal of the season in addition to two helpers. Patrick Perry and Matt Granzow also scored. Tommy Travers added an assist.
The Battle Mountain defense was a rock, anchored by goalies Spencer Currie and Winston Heuga.
Battle Mountain will get an opportunity to hit the road again Tuesday. This time it’s to the northern part of the state and Steamboat Springs.
In other lacrosse action Friday, Durango beat Eagle Valley girls lacrosse, 9-8, in Gypsum.
