Vail Valley preps wrap for Friday
VAIL – Battle Mountain hockey got its second Foothills conference win of the season Friday night in convincing fashion, drubbing Columbine, 7-0, at Dobson Arena in Vail.
The Huskies outshot Columbine, 39-15 and chased two Rebels goaltenders.
Mike Jones scored two of the Huskies first three goals. Miguel Rodriguez scored in between. The Huskies erupted for four more scores in the third to give goalie Steve Parra the shutout.
Jack Sunderland scored short-handed and on the power play within one minute in the third period. Summers Baker and Jordan Goldstein finished the Rebels off.
Battle Mountain (2-4 in the Peak, 4-8 overall) hosts Steamboat Springs tonight at 5. In addition to the traditional rivalry with the Sailors, it’s also Senior Night.
Hayden tops VMS
Vail Mountain School basketball led Meeker, 12-7, after the first quarter.
The visiting Cowboys erased that lead in the second and third quarters, but the Gore Rangers played a pretty solid game in a 61-31 loss to Meeker Friday night.
For the uninitiated, Meeker is consistently one of the better teams in the 2A Slope.
Paco Holguin had a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds for VMS.
The Gore Rangers are at Hayden today.
