Vail, CO Colorado

Fall sports at the local high schools have long since ended, but volleyball continues for a few who travel to Denver multiple times per week to play for the Colorado Performance Volleyball Club.

Battle Mountain’s Hannah Ellison, Cara Murbach and Krista Norris and Eagle Valley’s Kelsey VanGoey play for the club, competing in Junior Olympic Qualifiers. The quartet is heading to tournaments in St. Louis and Minneapolis and possibly the Junior Olympics in Reno, Nev., or AAU Nationals in Miami.

Devils sophomore VanGoey plays on Colorado Performance’s 16-1 team as a setter. The team is ranked No. 3 in both the 17s age division (playing up an age bracket) as well as the 16s age division. Last weekend, the 16s played in Loveland where the Rocky Mountain Region hosted the first open tournament for teams in the top echelons of their age divisions. Although they finished eighth in Division I, they played hard against all the 18s teams and took many of these older teams to three games in a match.

Looking forward, Ellison, Murbach and VanGoey play this weekend in the second Power Tournament in the Rocky Mountain Region. All of these athletes (and several others from the local Vail clubs) head to Denver at the end of this month for the Colorado Crossroads qualifier. This tournament brings teams from all over the country, from Hawaii to Florida.
