Vail’s Kloser ready for worlds

Daily Staff Report
Vail, CO Colorado
Special to the DailyVail's Mike Kloser and Team Blackwater are ready for the World Adventure Racing Championships in Spain, which start Sunday.

Mike Kloser is more focused than ever on the Adventure Racing World Championship in Spain with an eye on another coveted world championship title.

His renamed Team Blackwater is made up of members Chris Forne, Nathan Fa’avae and Monique Merrill with Kloser taking on his customary role as captain.

“I’m really looking forward to racing with the team we have assembled this year, including Chris and Monique who I have raced with for the past three AR World Championships and the addition of Nathan Fa’avae, one of Adventure Racings powerhouses,” Kloser said. “The past two years, we’ve come in a close and disappointing second place. We’ve been training hard and are ready to regain that world title we won back in 2004, ’06 and ’07.

“We’re very excited to have Blackwater as our new sponsor. They are launching a new computer video game and are looking to promote this through our efforts. This year’s race has roughly 50 teams participating from all parts of the world. We’re expecting a big challenge from our usual rivals in the Kiwis, Spanish, Swedes and, of course, the Brits who narrowly took last year’s race from our grasp on the final day. I’m not necessarily looking for revenge from the past two years, but I’m indeed looking for some redemption.”

Race preparation for Bimbache Extrem (aka Adventure Racing World Championship) under way now in Castilla y Leon, Spain.

The official race start is this Sunday.
