Vail’s Samuelson wins at Winter Park
Vail, CO Colorado
After making some key adjustments, and building on her run from Thursday’s race, Ski and Snowboard Club Vail’s Kaytlyn Samuelson attacked the mountain and came out on top to win Friday’s downhill in the Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup at Winter Park.
“It’s awesome,” said Samuelson of her win. “We waxed better for the flat section at the top, and I stayed low in my tuck and skied a clean line.”
Also making it onto the podium for SSCV was Paula Moltzan with her third place finish. Moltzan’s teammates, Katharine Irwin, Anne Strong, and Julia Cooper, raced the track to fifth, 11th, and 12th, respectively.
“Samuelson just skied a lot better today,” said coach J.J. Jensen. “We adjusted the wax and the gamble paid off. It was a good day for the SSCV women.”
For SSCV’s men, Sean McCormick skied to a fourth place, Christoph Niederhauser took 12th, and Anthony Romano finished in 13th.
“It was really gusty today, so some luck was involved as to whether you were hit with a blast of wind when you came out of the start,” said coach Nick Asoian. “Overall, our guys skied well.”
