Vertical Challenge hits Vail Saturday

VAIL, Colorado ” Test your vertical limits as the Vertical Challenge swings through Vail Saturday for snow-riders of all ages and abilities.

One of the longest running ski and snowboard promotional tours in North America, the Vertical Challenge hosts more than 50 events during the 2007-08 season at resorts from New York to Colorado.

The event has free recreational racing, music, interactive games and sponsor expos. In addition to a giant slalom race, athletes can hit the Rail Jam. The Rail Jam is open to both skiers and boarders for a two-hour expression session.

Day-of registration is available from 8 a.m.-noon at the Mountain Dew tent at Golden Peak. The first 100 to sign up for the GS and the first 25 to sign up for the Rail Jam will receive a free Mountain Dew Frisbee. All athletes must purchase a lift ticket or use their season pass to participate.

Competition starts at 10 a.m. on Golden Peak. Rail Jam is at 11 a.m. at the bottom of Chair 12 (The Gopher Lift).

Award ceremonies are at 3 p.m., with top three in each category receiving medals, along with a bib-prize raffle following the awards presentation.

In addition to all the racing action, there is the Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge sponsor village with free music, interactive games and product-sampling opportunities.
