Vertical Challenge set for Saturday

VAIL – The 2006 Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge will unload a heap of heavy on-snow action at Vail’s Golden Peak Saturday. Snowriders of all ages and abilities can enjoy free recreational giant slalom racing, a rail jam, lively music, interactive games and sponsor expos.Day-of registration is available from 8 a.m.-Noon at the Mountain Dew tent in Golden Peak. Competition is slated to get underway at 10 a.m. on the Golden Peak Race Hill. All athletes must purchase a lift ticket or use their season pass to participate.In addition to the GS race, participants can sign up for a rail jam held at the base of Golden Peak. The two hours rail jam begins at 11 a.m. Award ceremonies are slated for 3 p.m., with the top three in each category receiving medals and invitations to the finals in Steamboat, April 1.Vail, Colorado
