VAIL – Vail Mountain girls’ tennis split a pair on its recent homestand, drumming Roaring Fork 7-0, Tuesday after losing a tight one to Glenwood Springs, 4-3, Monday.Shannen McNamara, Stephanie Miletich and Sarah Logan won their singles’ matches against the Rams. In doubles, Callie Tappe and Beri Dwyer, Kendal Gotthelf and Hanna Ellison, Sophie and Claire Sunderland and Adi Slifer and Jenna VanDeventer completed the sweep.”Having played a tight match on Monday, the girls looked very solid,” coach Hillary McSpadden said. “They played some great matches and did not let down their leads.”Against Glenwood, McNamara and Miletich picked up wins as did the Sunderland sisters in doubles.”Despite very windy and cold weather, the team stayed focused,” McSpadden said. “One small break and we would have had the match. The Sunderlands have won the majority of their matches this season and have been a stable force for our team. They stayed in their match mentally and were aggressive and consistent. Shannen and Stephanie are top junior players in Colorado and they have showed some excellent tennis this season, also wining all of their matches this season, which obviously is great support for their team.”VMS is at a tournament in Delta today and Saturday.
