Volleyball tourney to benefit Staples
At The King of the Mountain Volleyball Tournament in Vail earlier this summer, 34-year-old Andy Staples went into cardiac arrest in the middle of a match. Staples’ life was saved by Traci Birchler, Lauren Poindexter and Ruth Martin who performed CPR immediately. After an ambulance ride to the local hospital, a CareFlight to a Denver hospital, extensive testing and on-going treatment, Staples’ heart is on the road to recovery.
However, even after insurance coverage, the Staples family, which includes wife Teresa and kids Jayden (3) and Hannah (9 months), is burdened with thousands of dollars of medical expenses. The Hart Doubles Volleyball Tournament, which takes place Saturday in Lakewood Park, (150 S. Kipling, just south of 6th Ave.) will benefit Staples.
There will be Men’s, Women’s and Coed divisions with A or BB levels, as well at three junior divisions (14, 16 and and under).Check-in is at 8:30 a.m., and the tournament starts at 9 a.m. Registration is $40 per team until today, and $50 after.
