Walsh back on Sports Illustrated KIDS Next Snow Search Team

KILLINGTON, Vt. – Thomas Walsh, 12, was recently named as one of the 25 members of the 2007 Sports Illustrated KIDS Next Snow Search team following a three-day competition March 2 to 4 at Killington, Vt.Along with Walsh, who competes for Ski & Snowboard Club Vail, seven other SSCV athletes were invited to the event.The Next Snow Search featured three days of competition in seven disciplines: big air, slopestyle, superpipe, dual moguls, moguls, caring and the big-mountain challenge.Walsh, a 12-year-old skier, competed against 110 kids between the ages of 9 and 14, all of whom qualified for the competition this winter at one of 66 ski areas in the United States and Canada.In addition to athletic skills, the event’s judges also consider style, attitude and sportsmanship.Jack Skidmore, James Leonard and John Leonard competed in the freestyle category, while Katherine Irwin competed as an alpine skier. Libby Rudolf competed in snowboarding, and both Jordan Glendining and Garrett Tatreau qualified, but they didn’t attend the finals.Irwin won the dual moguls, was third in the slopestyle, third in the big-mountain challenge and third overall in the competition.Walsh was 10th in the big-mountain challenge, fourth in the dual moguls and sixth overall.Skidmore, 8, placed among the top 50 in each competition and was 26th overall, as the youngest skier there.Results and highlights are available at http://www.nextsnow.com.
