TENNESSEE PASS – The combined abilities to pedal, stride and glide will be the keys to success as the Pedal Power Snowshoe Adventure series continues on Saturday with Leadville Race Series Winter Triathlon. This special race takes place at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center starting at 10 a.m. and will consist of a 5-kilometer snowshoe, a 10-kilometer snow-bike and, finally, an 8-kilometer skate-ski. This event will also be open to both individual competitors and teams.

The nonprofit snowshoe series, now in its 16th season, benefits local charities in Eagle and Lake counties and consists of five events starting in early December and running through the mid-February.

According to race organizer Bruce Kelly, multi discipline winter events have become increasingly popular.

“Because of the unique nature of this competition, it has quickly become one of the ‘must-do’ events among our competitors,” Kelly said. “We strive to create a course that will be both interesting and challenging for the participants.”

This year, the season’s first winter triathlon is being sponsored by The Leadville Race Series, promoters of some of endurance athletics’ highest profile events, including the iconic Leadville 100 mountain bike and running races. Racers will meet at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center at Ski Cooper, between Interstate 70 and Leadville. The snowshoe leg of the event will take place on off-piste, single track with the bike and ski portions on groomed nordic track.

Pre-registration for this event is $35 for individuals and $30 per person for teams. Racers can register on the day of the race for $45 for individuals and $30 per person for teams. New this year, participants can pre-register directly online at pedalpowerbike.com. They can also get forms at Pedal Power Bicycle Shop in Eagle-Vail or by calling 970 845-0931. For more information call Pedal Power at 970-845-0931.
