Winter Triathlon set for Saturday on Tennessee Pass

Daily Staff Report

TENNESEE PASS, Colorado ” Stride, pedal and glide will be the keys to success as The Pedal Power Snowshoe Adventure Series continues Saturdaywith the Aria Club and Spa Winter Triathlon.

This special race takes place at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center, starting at 10 a.m., and will consist of a 5K snowshoe, a 10K snow-bike and a 5K skate-ski. This event is open to both individual competitors and teams.

The non-profit Snowshoe Series, now in its 13th season, benefits local charities in Eagle and Lake Counties and consists of five events starting in early December and running through the end of February

“In the earlier years, this series included a duathlon, which was a favorite among our regular participants,” race organizer Bruce Kelly said. ” With the growing popularity of winter biking, we thought it would add a fun new dimension to the winter multi-sport concept. With the optimal snow conditions we’ve got this winter, we anticipate strong participation in this unique event. And, with the cold temperatures we’ve had it should be a very fast course.”

Racers will meet at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center at Ski Cooper, between Interstate 70 and Leadville. The snowshoe leg of the event will take place on off-piste, single-track with the bike and ski portions on groomed Nordic track.
