Women’s adult hockey clinic offered in Vail

VAIL, Colorado – The Vail Recreation District will offer an adult women’s clinic as part of the return of the 27th annual Bob Johnson Hockey School July 16-17, featuring instruction by Mark Johnson. Johnson led the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team to a silver medal during the 2010 Olympics and was also the leading scorer on the U.S. team that won the Olympic gold medal in 1980 at Lake Placid, N.Y. Johnson has taught at the VRD’s ice hockey camp for the past 26 years and is the son of the hockey school’s founder, Bob Johnson.

The women’s hockey clinic, which will be unique to Vail, will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. July 16-17 at Dobson Ice Arena and cost is $60. Participants must be 18 years or older with one year of prior ice hockey experience.

Dobson Ice Arena Manager Jared Biniecki says the addition of the women’s clinic is exciting for Vail and women hockey players throughout the region.

“Vail is the only location in the country offering the women’s clinic that will be taught by Mark Johnson,” Biniecki said. “We are used to the world class ski and snowboard lessons taught each winter, and now our women hockey players can receive the same type of world class coaching right here at their home rink.”
