The town of Avon is hosting an open house to review the proposed installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Stonebridge Drive and U.S. Highway 6. The open house will take place at Avon Town Hall (100 Mikaela Way) on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 5:30 p.m.

The town was previously considering a roundabout in the location, but the Colorado Department of Transportation denied this option due to operational concerns. Instead, the department proposed the installation of a traffic signal to enable a pedestrian crossing.

The town is seeking feedback on the proposed traffic signal.

Typical advantages of traffic signals include providing maximum control for an intersection, clear right-of-way assignment, pedestrian phasing for safer multimodal operation, and creating gaps during peak times to allow side road users access to the main road. Typical disadvantages of traffic signals include increases in certain types of accident frequency, delays, and diversion to alternate routes.
