Comedian Winston Hodges performs at Eagle River Brewing Company Saturday

Kevin Hart described him as “smart” while millions watched on Netflix, but Winston Hodges will be silly in Gypsum this Saturday at Vail Comedy Show. Eagle River Brewing Company will host the show with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. and the show starting at 8:30 p.m. Mary Spadaro, who lives in Los Angeles but started comedy in Boston, and Mark Masters from Denver will also perform.
“Over the pandemic Winston did an online show I ran, which I only realized by accident recently. We had over 500 comedians on it. To say he has gone on to bigger and better things is a massive understatement,” Masters said.
Hodges became a fan favorite on his way to a top-six finish in the Netflix comedy competition series “Funny AF with Kevin Hart,” which began with thousands of comics and aired starting in April of this year.
This will be his first time performing in Colorado. “I am beyond excited. I have heard y’all have some of the best audiences in the country, and I can’t wait to perform for them,” said Hodges.
He has performed all over the country, and not every show has gone to plan. “Early on, I had a drunk audience member who was being insanely rude. When he heckled, I said something, then he pulled out a firearm, and then I immediately shut my mouth. Fifteen dollars at a bar isn’t worth getting shot over,” recounted Hodges.

Mary Spadaro moved from a Boston scene she loved in the hopes of finding her way onto bigger stages. “I moved from Boston to L.A. two years ago in hopes of doing exactly what I’m doing now — opening for someone I like a lot — I love the Boston scene very much though and miss it all the time,” said Spadaro.
Her comedy has been described as dark and silly, and this will be her first time in Colorado as well.
Mark Masters will host the show. He has been doing comedy in unexpected places recently. “I just did a 40th high school reunion in Wyoming, a company fantasy football draft party in Denver, and a gay men’s meetup group at a campground near Colorado Springs, so I’m looking forward to being back in Gypsum on a regular comedy show, with some of my favorite people in the country,” said Masters.
Vail Comedy Show will return to Gypsum at Eagle River Brewing Company on Thursday, Oct. 8 with headliner Andrew Orvedahl from The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. He will perform with comics from Maine, Vermont, New York City, Texas and Missouri as part of Mountain Fresh Comedy Festival, which will have events in Breckenridge, Georgetown and Idaho Springs that weekend. In November, Los Angeles act Caleb Synan will be in Gypsum, and shows will be added through the end of ski season soon for events all over the valley.
