An early morning interstate closure Thursday was the result of a crash involving a stolen vehicle, the Vail Police Department has confirmed.

The driver “fled from an attempted traffic stop and crashed,” said Ryan Kenney with the Vail Police Department.

Kenney said on Thursday evening that no one is in custody and law enforcement is following up on several leads as to who was driving the car.

The interstate closure occurred just west of the town of Vail, on the eastbound side of I-70, and started just before midnight on Wednesday.

The closure lasted about 2 hours, according to a witness.
