Eagle County School District seeks community members to join finance committee
Committee serves as external monitoring group for district
Eagle County School District is accepting applications for community members with a keen interest in finance and budgeting to join its Finance Committee. This committee plays a crucial role in ensuring responsible financial management and transparency in its operations, the district said in a press release.
The Eagle County School District Finance Committee is an external monitoring committee that helps ensure the district functions in a fiscally prudent manner with a high level of financial stewardship. The committee’s primary functions include reviewing and analyzing the school budget, making recommendations for budget allocations, monitoring financial performance and adherence to budgets, providing financial oversight and guidance to support educational goals, and reporting and providing opinions on the results of the committee work to the Board of Education quarterly (or as otherwise requested).
While no specific experience is required to apply for this role, the district is looking for individuals who have a background or interest in finance, accounting or budget management. Strong applicants will have analytical and critical thinking skills, have the ability to work collaboratively with a team, and align with the district’s missions and values, according to the district.
“Committee members have a meaningful impact on education and student success, and they also get to build up their resume and professional skills,” said Sandy Farrell, the district’s chief operating officer. “Our Finance Committee is an opportunity to gain valuable experience in financial oversight and management while collaborating with a dedicated team of educators and community members.”
School finances can be a confusing topic, and the committee is an opportunity for community members to learn more about the ins and outs and gain a better understanding of the shortfalls of state funding and the efforts the school district takes to ensure fiscal responsibility, according to the district’s release.
