Obituary: Anneliese Freeman
December 3, 1938 – February 28, 2025
Anneliese Freeman passed peacefully in her Vail, CO, home on Friday, February 28, 2025.
Anneliese Freeman was born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, to Ferdinand and Emma Meggl. She is survived by her sister (Hannelore Kittel), partner Hank Parker, sons Michael Freeman (Denise Freeman) and Stefan (Justine Freeman), four grandchildren (Griffin Freeman, Riley Freeman, Parker Freeman, and Jacquelyn Freeman to whom she was lovingly known as Omi), a niece and nephew and their families.
With beautiful snowy hills around her from birth, it’s no wonder that Anneliese’s passion for skiing began at a very young age. With her skill, she would go on to become the 1958 West German Downhill Champion and in 1960 represented West Germany at the Squaw Valley Winter Games. In 1965, after marrying Clay Freeman, Anneliese settled in Vail and built a community she’s called home ever since. Through her friendship with Vail mainstays Dave and Renie Gorsuch, she built a career working with them to support their business and helping to develop the industry-leading catalog for 40 years.
Along with her love of skiing, Anneliese was passionate about tennis, her girls’ tennis trips, and being a supportive, concerned mother and grandmother.
To honor Anneliese’s memory, grab your friends and skis and hit the slopes, followed by a drink while listening to some Bavarian music. She’ll be there with you in spirit.
