Obituary: David E. Nelson

October 21, 1948 – October 15, 2024

David E. Nelson, 75, passed away October 15, 2024 in Edwards, CO of a respiratory illness. David was born in Portland, ME, where he attended public schools. At Colby College Dave lettered in track, and enjoyed life-long friendships with classmates. It was there that he met the love of his life, Janet K. Beals, whom he married in 1978. Moving to Colorado in 1975 to ski, Dave worked for a number of leading hospitality firms, progressing through a variety of restaurant and hotel management positions in the Vail Valley and Denver. Later he specialized in facilities management for properties in the Vail/Avon/Beaver Creek area.

Retirement led Dave and Janet to wider, and warmer, climes. They enjoyed foreign travel and “snowbirding” in Peoria, AZ, where they became active in the Trilogy community. They continued to call Edwards their summer home, where Dave enjoyed hiking, biking, and volunteering weekly at Habitat for Humanity.

Dave is survived by his younger brother Steve, of San Francisco and Monterey, CA. A Celebration of Life is to be held in Edwards, CO in late June. Memorial contributions can be donated to the Vail Health Foundation for the purpose of supporting the Shaw Cancer Center.
