Opinion | Arenschield: Support Ruth Stanley for Avon Town Council

I am pleased to write this letter in support of Ruth Stanley and her reelection to the Avon Town Council. Although I am not a resident of Avon, I have owned a business in Chapel Square for many years and was proud to serve two terms on the Avon Planning and Zoning Commission. As both a business owner and someone who has been actively involved in the community, I care deeply about Avon’s future and the people entrusted with making decisions on its behalf.
Ruth and I first began working together more than 25 years ago on several multifamily development projects. She was not only a pleasure to work with, but consistently demonstrated professionalism, preparation, and an exceptional attention to detail. Her knowledge, organization and thoughtful approach made our jobs easier and our projects more successful.
Over the years, I have followed Ruth’s service on the Town Council with great interest. I have always valued her perspective, her commitment to understanding the issues, and the time and effort she clearly puts into preparing for council meetings.
What ultimately prompted me to write this letter was my attendance at the October 6 Town Council meeting regarding the controversial Flock cameras. It was an emotionally charged meeting, with strong opinions and genuine concerns expressed by members of the community. As I listened to the questions posed by each Council member to the Flock representative, one thing stood out to me: Ruth Stanley had clearly done her homework.
In my opinion, Ruth distinguished herself through the depth and thoughtfulness of her questions. She approached the discussion without any apparent preconceived position or personal agenda. Her questions were informed, relevant, and sincere, reflecting a genuine desire to gather the facts before making a decision. To me, this is exactly what we should expect from our elected officials: the willingness to listen, ask difficult questions, and make thoughtful decisions in the best interests of the people they represent.

I urge Avon voters to take a closer look at Ruth Stanley’s background, her years of service, and her dedication to the community. Her experience, integrity, and thoughtful leadership are qualities that deserve to be recognized and valued.
Ruth Stanley has earned my respect and my wholehearted support for reelection to the Avon Town Council.
