Dust off your easel and join Betty Ford Alpine Gardens in welcoming the Rocky Mountain Society of Botanical Artists for an introductory workshop on botanical art.
Botanical art is back in fashion and the Rocky Mountain Society of Botanical Artists — whose mission is to foster awareness and appreciation for this beautiful and integral art form — is at the helm of its resurgence. The group, which features artists from Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, works to produce realistic portrayals of plants, flowers, fruiting bodies, seeds, roots, and pollinators. The detailed and creative processes botanical artists utilize renders far more information than found in photographs.
Learn a few of these critical techniques, enjoy a day at Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, and find your inner botanical artist with chapter members Dorothy DePaulo and Sharon Garett on Aug. 14. This one-day workshop will serve as an introduction to botanical art, focusing on plant structure, leaf shape, ventilation, and leaf arrangement on stems. Explore light, depth, composition, and three-dimensionality to create renderings of your own natural world.
Tickets are $30. A list of supplies and materials will be provided upon registration. For more information, visit BettyFordAlpineGardens.org.
