Vail Comedy Show returns Thursday to Gypsum. Eagle River Brewing will host the event.  Headliners Leah Bonnema and Dustin Chafin from Los Angeles will be joined by Mark Masters from Denver.

“It is very exciting to have two former Vail Comedy Festival headliners stopping in for a show and to be back in Gypsum for the first of three shows in the coming months,” Masters said.

Bonnema has appeared on CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and is the author of “The Holiday Breakdown” and a co-host of the podcast “Were You Raised By Wolves,” in addition to performing multiple times at Vail Comedy Show and Vail Comedy Festival over the years.

We asked Bonnema about performing in the area.

“I have had the absolute pleasure of performing in the Vail area on a few occasions now. I headlined the Vail Comedy Festival and have done a few shows at different venues with Mark. The shows are always so fun and the natural beauty of the area is staggeringly breathtaking. However, the roundabouts! May God be with me, I just drive in circles, the anxiety. I see them coming and panic. I want to drive straight through the middle,” Bonnema said.

FILM@Vail Comedy Festival fans may be interested in some of Bonnema’s upcoming projects.

“I’m currently starting back out on tour, which is exciting. I am also directing a short film I wrote called ‘MissConduct’ that won awards at script festivals, so we’ve decided to film it. And in the wee hours of morning, when I can’t sleep because I am wracked with perimenopause I am working on a detective novel,” Bonnema shared.

Chafin has appeared on HBO’s “Crashing,” SiriusXM and the “WTF Podcast” with Marc Maron.

“I was on the last season of ‘WTF’ with Marc Maron. I’m a huge fan. It was the big credit as a comedian I truly wanted. Getting roasted, hanging with the cats and seeing his vinyl collection was amazing. I got to tell my life story and talk shop to one of my all-time favorite comedians. It was a big highlight,” said Chafin.

Mark Masters will host the show. The organizer of Vail Comedy Show has been on some interesting shows recently. “I performed at a high school reunion for the class of 1986 in Casper, Wyoming, one weekend and the next I did a corporate private event in Denver followed by a campground comedy show in the woods near Colorado Springs,” Masters said.

Vail Comedy Show will bring more laughs to Gypsum at Eagle River Brewing Co. on Sept. 12 with Winston Hodges, a top six finalist on the Netflix series “Funny AF with Kevin Hart.” Mary Spadaro from Boston will also perform.

Mountain Fresh Comedy Festival will return Oct. 8 with headliner Andrew Orvedahl from “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” He will perform with comics from Maine, Vermont, New York City, Texas and Missouri, in Gypsum. You can learn more at mfcomedy.com.
