Avon kids still missing
AVON ” Authorities in another state were bearing down Sunday night on the location of Pedro Mata Rodriguez, suspected of kidnapping two Avon children on Friday, Avon police reported.
“There’s a department in another state that’s getting pretty close,” Avon police Chief Brian Kozak said, adding he didn’t want to reveal the state for fear Rodriguez might be tipped off.
Mother Hilda Vargas last saw her two children ” Jessica Marbella Garcia, 15 and Jose Luis Cerrato, 11 ” at about 5 a.m. Friday. She discovered the two were missing shortly after returning to her Sunridge apartment about noon the same day.
Authorities activated an Amber Alert on Friday from Colorado to the Mexican border. The alert was canceled Saturday.
Police suspect Vargas’ friend Elizabeth Barahona Oneida, 26, might also be with Rodriguez.
