AVON — On Sunday, The Athletic Club at The Westin and Dogma Athletica will co-host a special celebration for local professional triathlete Josiah Middaugh, who won the Xterra World Championships on Maui, Hawaii, on Nov. 1. The community celebration will be held at Maya at The Westin Riverfront starting at 6 p.m.
The event will include an autograph session and remarks from Middaugh about his championship race and season. Middaugh is well known throughout the Vail Valley as an elite-level, multi-discipline athlete. He also coaches the Athletic Club’s master swim program, is a marquee trainer at Dogma Athletica and coaches athletes of all levels and aspirations through Middaugh Coaching.
“The entire Vail Valley is excited about Josiah’s win, and we wanted to come together as a community to celebrate this major accomplishment,” said Jen Razee, Athletic Club director. “We have followed his successes closely over the years and are keenly aware of how hard he worked to achieve the top step on Sunday.”
It was Middaugh’s 15th year competing in the off-road triathlon event; he previously finished twice as first runner-up. East West Resorts Executive Vice President Peter Dann also was crowned an age-group champion last Sunday, placing first in the amateur 60 to 64 division.
“It is wonderful to have such a humble personality training and sharing his expertise at Dogma Athletica,” said Rod Connolly, Dogma Athletica owner. “Josiah’s biggest fans are probably his clients. They are excited to celebrate this achievement with him.”
A complimentary keg of Crazy Mountain beer will be available to all attendees who are 21 and older. Maya will also be serving its 2 Dine for $49 dinner special, where patrons can order one appetizer, two entrees and one dessert for $49, as well as happy hour pricing on drinks all night for dinner guests.
Complimentary valet parking is available for restaurant patrons, based on availability. For more information, visit http://www.athleticclubwestin.com, dogmaathletica.com or http://www.richardsandoval.com/mayabc.
