Colorado, Vail about to get first real taste of winter

VAIL, Colorado – Vail is about to get its first real taste of winter –maybe more than a foot worth.

The National Weather Service says a major winter storm will move into western Colorado Tuesday evening and spread across the state. A winter storm warning has been issued for the Vail Valley.

The snow is forecast to continue falling through Thursday.



Parts of the central mountains, including Summit County, could get up to 18 inches.

For Vail, the Weather Service is forecasting 2 to 4 inches tonight, 3 to 5 inches Wednesday and another 3 to 5 inches Wednesday night. Temperatures will range from the mid-30s to mid-20s.

The Weather Service also says snow is likely after midnight along the Front Range and that the Denver area could get between 8 and 14 inches before the storm moves out. The Front Range foothills could get up to 2 feet because of easterly winds that are expected to push moisture up against those slopes.
