1945-2013
Charles Lamar Bryant Jr. – “Charlie”, 68 – passed away suddenly on May 7 in Glenwood Springs.
He was born in Happy Jack, Ariz., on Feb. 20, 1945, and was the second child of six siblings. His family moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., where he attended high school and met his wife of 49 years, Patricia Dawson Bryant. They started a family and had four children. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in forestry from Northern Arizona University.
Charlie, a longtime Eagle Valley resident, moved to Eagle with his family in 1972 where he worked for Kaibab Industries. After Kaibab closed down he went to work for B&B Excavation for many years as a construction foreman. After retiring 5 years ago, he enjoyed life to the fullest, pursuing his hobbies and passions, which included fishing, hunting, throwing horseshoes, hiking, fly tying, puzzles, attending his grandchildren’s academic/sports activities, and spending time with many friends and family. He enjoyed everyone’s company and was considered a grandpa/father to many in the valley. One of his favorite sayings was, “Hey, What are you doing? Do you want to go fishing?” Or if anyone needed fishing or hunting advice, or companionship, Charlie knew where to find the game.

He was a large man with a huge heart who will be dearly missed by so many. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Gypsum; his children, Nathan (Ann) Bryant of Pagosa Springs, Lanie (Blake) Martin of Gypsum, and Travis (Kaylynn) Bryant of Phippsburg; his father, Charles Lamar Bryant, Sr., 92, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; his sisters, Beverly (Todd) Lawrence of Cottonwood, Ariz., Barbara Latham of Flagstaff.; and his brothers, Arvel Lynn Bryant of Flagstaff, Curt (Toni) Bryant of Kansas City, Mo., and James (Carman) of Texas; his grandchildren – Megan, Breezy, Emily, Trevor, Alex, Lance, Kelsey Bryant; Tyler Mosher and Taylor, Garrett and Kylie Martin; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Arvel Lee Bryant, 86, of Flagstaff and his daughter, Leilah Bryant Mosher.
A memorial celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 934 Gypsum Creek Road, Gypsum, Colo. Potluck Reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Wells Fargo Bank in Eagle.
