Vail, CO Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A Glenwood Springs man has died from injuries he suffered in an April 12 single-car crash on Interstate 70 near Rulison, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

David Whiddon, 68, suffered internal injuries in the crash and died on April 21, the state patrol said in a press release issued Tuesday. He was initially taken to Grand River Medical Center in Rifle after the accident, and later taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.

Whiddon was traveling west on the interstate when his Subaru station wagon went off the left side of the roadway and through the median, according to the state patrol. Just before the car entered the eastbound lanes, the vehicle collided with an embankment and was launched into the air over the eastbound lanes, landing on its roof south of the lanes. The accident occurred shortly before 9 a.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Speed and alcohol are not considered factors, according to the patrol.
