Loveland Pass, I-70 closed as snow keeps falling on Colorado’s mountains

5:25 p.m.: Loveland Pass is closed in both directions between Interstate 70 and Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, according to CoTrip.org. I-70 eastbound is still closed at Silverthorne.

4:45 p.m.: Eastbound Interstate 70 between the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels and Exit 205 to Silverthorne has closed again, according to CoTrip.org. Westbound remains open.

3:15 p.m.: Westbound Interstate 70 between Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels and Exit 205 to Silverthorne has reopened, according to CoTrip.org. The eastbound portion of highway remains closed.



Original story: As a major snowstorm coincides with Thanksgiving travel, Interstate 70 through Colorado’s mountains is experiencing closures and difficult traveling conditions.

I-70 westbound and eastbound are closed between the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels and Exit 205 to Silverthorne, according to CoTrip.org. Colorado Department of Transportation cameras show ice-covered roads and traffic stacking up near the tunnels.

Ahead of Tuesday, Nov. 26, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning telling drivers that the winter storm would make travel “difficult to impossible” in parts of the Colorado Rocky Mountains at times through Thanksgiving morning. Between 1-2 feet of snow are expected in parts of the mountains.
