Original story: Westbound lanes of Interstate 70 over Vail Pass are closed as of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The closure is due to safety concerns, according to COTrip.org, as snow is causing poor visibility and dangerous travel conditions. Traffic is stopped just west of Copper Mountain at the Vail Pass Summit and the closure continues to East Vail.

Most of western Colorado and the mountains are under a winter weather advisory through 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Between 4-10 inches of snow are expected, along with winds gusting as high as 60 mph, according to the winter weather advisory.
