New radio station for info in Vail

VAIL, Colorado ” Information on road conditions, parking, emergency alerts and other public safety announcements are being broadcast on a new, low-power radio frequency in Vail.

Travelers can tune into AM 1610 for road information, replacing the AM 530 frequency which had been in place since 1996. The new system has a better signal that covers most areas of town from East Vail to West Vail, and allows public safety dispatchers to more easily record updates.

The station also broadcasts emergency information alerts such as wildfire evacuations, Vail Pass closures or when other community dangers. The system cost $44,000.



The town also broadcasts emergency information via http://www.ecalert.org, the 911 call back system, cable TV channel 10, http://www.vailgov.com, and local news media outlets.
