Heath John-Frome Schaiberger, 51, lived a life that was as adventurous as it was compassionate. His infectious spirit, boundless energy, and fearless embrace of life’s experiences left an unforgettable mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Heath believed in living life to the fullest. Whether he was skiing, mountain biking, playing soccer, tennis, lacrosse, longboarding, or camping beneath the stars, he embraced every opportunity for adventure. To say he loved sports and the outdoors is an understatement—they were woven into the fabric of who he was.
From a young age, Heath had a gift for drawing, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. He also had a deep love for his beloved furry friends, as well as hobbies that included caring for plants and exotic ocean fish.
Professionally, Heath was an exceptional children’s nurse for more than 20 years. He cared for countless children and families with remarkable skill, compassion, and kindness. He had a rare ability to connect with people, putting even the most anxious child or worried parent at ease. His patients, their families, and colleagues will remember him not only for his dedication, but also for the warmth and comfort he brought into every room.
Heath was a wonderful stepfather to Artemis. He enjoyed teaching her all the things he loved, including cooking, and together they shared many of his favorite outdoor passions—from skiing the slopes and exploring mountain trails to camping beneath the stars.
One of Heath’s greatest joys in recent years was becoming a father. Five years ago, he and his wife, Becca, became foster parents, welcoming Zara into their family three years ago. Last year, they officially adopted her. Zara was the sparkle in Heath’s eye, and nothing made him happier than hearing her call him “Papa.”
Heath had a magnetic personality. Friends, family, coworkers, patients, and strangers alike were naturally drawn to him. He had an extraordinary gift for making people feel welcome, seen, and valued. His facial expressions and smile were unforgettable.
An extraordinary storyteller, Heath could captivate any audience. His tales were often hilarious, sometimes unbelievable, and always heartfelt. They were shaped by a life lived boldly and adventurously. His experiences provided endless material, and he delighted in sharing them with anyone willing to listen.
Though his time with us was far too short, Heath’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the adventures he embraced, and the memories he created. He reminded us all to embrace our passions and never miss an opportunity for adventure.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Heath is survived by his parents, Paul and Diana Schaiberger; sister Heather Benson (Bob); niece Onika; sister Heidi Murdock (Lance); nephew Heyden; his wife, Becca; his daughter, Zara; and stepdaughter, Artemis, along with many family members, 29 first cousins, dear friends, colleagues, and the countless children and families whose lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Children’s Hospital Foundation in Heath’s memory:
