Prep notebook: Battle Mountain girls soccer powers past Summit
Vail Christian volleyball and VMS soccer, lacrosse also picked up wins

Jordan Asbury and Evelyn Steinberg each scored goals to power Battle Mountain to a 2-1 win over Summit on Tuesday in Edwards. Yeimi and Lesly Castillo got the assists as Jaime Yim Nadler scored the lone Tiger goal. The No. 17 Huskies were coming off a 3-0 loss to Fruita Monument, the 23rd-ranked team in 5A, on a snowy home game last Friday.

With the win on Tuesday, Battle Mountain improved to 5-2-3 overall and 2-0-1 in league play, while the Tigers dropped to 4-3-1 and 1-1. The Huskies are on the road the rest of the month, with games against Pueblo West on Saturday and Summit next Monday. They return to their home field on May 3 against Eagle Valley, which is currently second in the league standings.

Other prep notes: Vidal leads Gore Rangers to victory over Panthers

- Charlie Vidal scored five goals and added three assists and Connor Wadey and George Reihe each poured in three goals apiece as Vail Mountain School defeated Middle Park 13-10 on Monday at home. The Gore Rangers improved to 4-5 on the year heading into Thursday’s game against Steamboat Springs. The Sailors are second in the league standings with a 4-1 record after defeating Battle Mountain 8-4 on Tuesday.
- The Vail Christian boys volleyball team swept Alameda 25-12, 25-18, 25-21 on Monday to improve to 4-2 on the year. Luis Rico and Ian Salyer led the way with eight and seven kills, respectively. Max Litviakov added six blocks for the Saints, who are now ranked sixth in 4A.
- The Vail Mountain School girls soccer team is on a two-game winning streak after shutting out Basalt 3-0 on Saturday and Coal Ridge 4-0 on Monday. The No. 8 Gore Rangers (4-1-1) travel to Rifle on Thursday to face the Bears (3-2) at 4 p.m.
- The Battle Mountain girls lacrosse team improved to 8-1 overall and 7-0 in league play with a 16-8 win over Steamboat Springs on Saturday and a 28-2 victory over Summit on Tuesday. Izzy Kovacik scored four goals and corralled six ground balls against the Sailors while 11 different Huskies put the ball in the back of the net against the Tigers. Palmer Ulvestad and Isabel Thomas led the way with four goals apiece for Battle Mountain, which has risen to the No. 2 spot in 4A in the CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index.
- Three Battle Mountain boys hockey team athletes received all-conference honors for the 2025 season. Defenseman Ethan Fronteras and forward Gannon Sharkey both were named honorable mention while forward Connor Wadey earned second team distinction. Sharkey led the team in goals (14) while Wadey was tops in points (23). Fronteras scored five goals and added five assists as well for the Huskies, who finished the year with a 10-8 record. Steamboat Springs, which won its first state title with a 4-2 win over Glenwood Springs last month, had six athletes named to the all-conference squad and two on the all-state first team. Sailors’ defenseman Angus Frithsen won the 4A state player of the year award while his coach, Brian Ripley, won coach of the year for the state.
