Vail staffers get green-building certification

VAIL, Colorado ” Four employees of the town’s Community Development Department are now certified by a national green building program known commonly by its acronym, LEED.

Kristen Bertuglia, environmental sustainability coordinator, Warren Campbell, chief of planning, Rachel Friede, planner, and Stan Hahn, senior electrical inspector all passed a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design exam.

These employees can now help developers get their projects certified by the program, which considered to have among the nation’s most stringent green-building standards.



Vail’s Community Development Department is in the early stages of drafting green building standards. The process will take an estimated 6 to 7 months. Department director George Ruther says Vail is committed to being a leader in environmental sustainability among resort destinations.
