West Lake Creek Road bridge replacement is needed, but it’s going to be tricky
Job will require four full closures of West Lake Creek Road

The West Lake Creek Road Bridge over East Lake Creek is the oldest bridge in Eagle County’s road system. It’s also the only one in “poor” condition. It’ll be replaced this year, but it’s a tricky job.
The road is the only way in and out of a neighborhood of between 50 and 75 parcels, so replacing the bridge has to ensure both residents and emergency vehicles can get to and from the area. Even with that, four full road closures will be needed, although those closures are expected to last only from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In addition to the closures, power will be shut off to the neighborhood during those times because equipment will come within 10 feet of overhead power lines.
In a Tuesday presentation to the Eagle County Board of Commissioners, Rickie Davies of the county’s engineering department described the work program for replacing the bridge, which was built in 1940 as a one-lane span and rebuilt in 1990 as a two-lane bridge.
The project, with a total cost of roughly $916,000, will essentially put the new, wider, bridge over the abutments of the old structure. The work will raise the bridge elevation 1.1 feet and add a curb and gutter on the south side of the road.

Except for the four full closures, one lane of traffic will be maintained. Work is expected to begin Aug. 5, with project completion set for Nov. 15.
