Letter: Education is about more than academics

In recent weeks, our Eagle County community has experienced events that created fear and uncertainty for many families.
In times like these, we believe public education matters more than ever.
Education is about far more than academics. It is about care, belonging, safety, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive. Our educators show up each day not only to teach, but to support children through moments both joyful and hard. When families are carrying fear or instability, schools often become one of the few steady places children can rely on.
At the Education Foundation of Eagle County (EFEC), our mission is to support educators and students and strengthen public education as a source of stability, equity, and hope. When systems are strained and families are navigating uncertainty, the role schools play in children’s lives becomes even more essential.
As we move forward with Project Funway 2026, EFEC’s largest annual fundraiser, we do so with intention and empathy. Continuing to invest in public education is one of the most meaningful ways our community can show up for children and the educators who care for them every day — especially during challenging moments.

We are grateful to be part of a community that continues to support its schools. Public education is a shared responsibility, and when we come together around it, Eagle County is stronger for it.
