Kate Kampner is a general assignment reporter covering environment, nonprofits, education, and community. She is from New Jersey and a recent graduate from the University of Vermont where she spent three years part of an internship that partners students with local newspapers. During that time Kate covered environmental news across the state and was published in newspapers like VTDigger, Vermont Public, and the Burlington Free Press. She was recognized by The Grist for her work covering clean energy conversations in the state legislature and has been seen on CCTV Center for Media & Democracy, talking about her work writing on monarch butterfly migration.
Kate loves getting her hands dirty for a good story and has spent hours on cold lakes with fishermen, deep in the woods with researchers, walking through pastures with farmers and through the crowds of the Vermont State House.
When Kate is not working, you can find her reading, skiing, hiking or working on her creative writing. Her favorite book is “The Year of Magical Thinking” by Joan Didion and her favorite animals are birds, cows and her family dogs Ruby and Rosco.
