Have you ever performed in the Vail Valley?
This will be my first time performing in Vail Valley! Hope the altitude doesn’t get to me. The closest I’ve ever gotten to Vail was when I performed at the Aspen Comedy Festival just after HBO stopped sponsoring it. The year before I went, they were giving out TV development deals. When I went, we got custom koozies.
Do you have a favorite Colorado comedy memory?
One winter, I was opening for Arj Barker at Comedy Works in Downtown Denver. We went out for drinks after the show, and by the time we left the bar, we were in the middle of a snowstorm! Between the snow and the drinks, we got lost on the way back to the hotel. We managed to find our way back before frostbite kicked in and kept all our fingers.

Dave Attell called you “one of the best joke writers working today.” How long have you been writing jokes and do you enjoy a good joke?
I’ve been a professional comedian for 24 years, but the first joke I ever wrote was when I was in the fifth grade. Johnny Carson ended up telling it on “The Tonight Show.”

What do you know about Vail Comedy Show?
They’re gonna pay me to do comedy there. That’s all I know.
Any major events coming up?
Planning on taping my next comedy special later this year. This will be a follow-up to my last special, which got over 1.4 million views on YouTube, and I think this new material is even better! You’ll get a sneak preview this Wednesday in Gypsum.

You live in New York City but tour nationally. How does Colorado compare to other markets?
Colorado crowds are phenomenal … as long as they don’t get too high!
How would you describe your comedy?
My comedy was once described as “cerebral filth.” But I think I’ve gotten a little less filthy as I’ve gotten older. Still, I’d like to think it’s a good mix of low-brow and high-brow humor. I like to say my comedy is for people who like their dirty jokes smart, and their smart jokes a little filthy.
What is next for Louis Katz?
I’m gonna keep touring, keep honing my craft, tape my next special and then start working on the next one!
Mark Masters will host the show in Gypsum. Vail Comedy Show will be back on July 10 in partnership with SpeakUp ReachOut on two free comedy shows at the Riverwalk Theater in Edwards, the Spanish language show will be headlined by Carlos Santos from Netflix.
