Vail Symposium kicks off summer season with a discussion of American journalism at home and abroad
The state of the news media has never been in more flux. With what seems to be an unlimited number of outlets reporting on news — real and “fake” — it can be difficult to know not only what to believe, but also who to believe, and where does this leave the legacy news outlets? On Tuesday, June 10 at Eagle River Presbyterian Church, Vail Symposium kicks off the summer season with a discussion on this timely topic with lauded newspaper journalist Manuel Roig-Franzia.
“Journalism is changing … fast,” said Vail Symposium Executive Director James Kenly. “We are excited to present such esteemed journalists with experience in the traditional media as well as in the new digital landscape to help us navigate the firehose of content we encounter every day.”
Washington Post feature writer Manuel Roig-Franzia has profiled national figures, major world events, domestic and international politics, natural disasters and more. He has served as bureau chief in Miami for The Post’s national staff and in Mexico City for The Post’s foreign staff. He is the author of “The Rise of Marco Rubio.” In this program, Roig-Franzia shares his insights on the American press, both from the perspective of the national staff and the foreign bureau, as well as his views on the United States, Mexico, and the broader geopolitics under Marco Rubio.
The program will be moderated by Emmy-winning journalist Greg Dobbs, who was a foreign correspondent for ABC News and provided coverage in more than 80 countries around the world.
