Blue Moose Pizza celebrates 20 years in Vail Valley with 95-cent drafts, slices
VAIL — Blue Moose Pizza will kick off a season of celebrations today to commemorate the restaurant’s 20th anniversary of serving hand-tossed, New York-style pizza in the Vail Valley. First opened in Beaver Creek in 1995, the anniversary festivities will include 95-cent drafts and select 95-cent slices served all day long, with additional events and specials continuing throughout the winter season.
Owner and longtime local Brian Nolan and the entire Blue Moose staff truly appreciate all those who have supported the business throughout the past 20 years.
“It has been an honor to be able to be a part of the Vail and Beaver Creek experience for so many,” Nolan said. “It is so fun to see the number of families and guests that return to see us year after year, and of course, we always love to see our locals.
“We wouldn’t have been able to make it to such an important milestone without our longtime supporters, and that is really why we are looking to celebrate with specials and events all season long. We really just want to say thank you. It has been a great 20 years, and we are looking forward to many, many more.”
In 1995, Nolan opened the family-friendly Blue Moose Pizza in the then very new Beaver Creek Village, originally in the space that now holds the restaurant Hooked. A small, counter-service operation, the Moose’s New York-style slices and homemade chocolate-chip cookies appealed to visitors and locals alike, and the restaurant quickly became a staple in the village.
The Blue Moose has since grown to a full-service restaurant, now located in the Poste Montane in Beaver Creek Village, featuring appetizers, salads and entrees, in addition to specialty pizzas by the pie or slice. In the past 20 years, the restaurant has also experienced considerable growth outside of Beaver Creek; first in Vail, with a sister restaurant opening in Lionshead Village in 2007, and most recently with a new Blue Moose opening in New Braunfels, Texas, in Aug. 2014.
For those who have sampled and loved the various Blue Moose specialty pizzas throughout the years, keep an eye out this season, as a few favorites from the past will make a surprise return. Patrons are also invited to enjoy the continued ’95 special, with a plethora of 95-cent drafts and slices served from 3 to 5 p.m. on the 20th of every month starting in December.

In wake of deadly Vail Valley avalanche, tributes to Dillon Block and Cesar Almanza-Hernandez pour in
It has been a decade since Almanza-Hernandez graduated from Eagle Valley High School, and almost that long for Block. But inevitably, when a native son passes unexpectedly and tragically, folks tend to remember times spent together during their high school days.
