Interstate 70 closed in both directions Monday night at the Eisenhower Tunnel after a police pursuit, officials said.

The interstate closed about 9:15 p.m. Monday, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Westbound lanes reopened at 9:45 p.m. and eastbound lanes were expected to remain closed until at least 10:40 p.m., according to the agency.

State Patrol troopers and Summit County sheriff’s deputies were pursuing a vehicle shortly before the closure, CSP spokesman Josh Lewis said. A suspect was arrested in connection to the pursuit, though Lewis wouldn’t say what prompted the chase and referred a reporter to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office did not immediately return a call Monday night.

After the chase, fire crews extinguished a flaming vehicle outside the tunnel. The vehicle was connected to the chase, Lewis said.
