Vail Comedy Show is flying in New York City-based comedian Rojo Perez this week. Perez will perform at Lookout Bar at The Westin Avon on Wednesday, and at Sarah’s Lounge at Christiania Lodge at Vail on Thursday, twice. The first show will be in English and the second will be in Spanish. Perez has appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” Special guest Jayson Acevedo from Los Angeles will also perform. Mark Masters will host the shows.

Have you ever performed in the Vail Valley?

To be honest I’m not really sure where the Vail Valley is. I have looked nothing up, I am putting my life in Mark’s hands and sharing my location with my bank. I owe them too much money for them not to come find me.

Do you have a favorite Colorado comedy memory?

Doing a cereal and comedy show on 4/20 a few years back in Denver was an experience. The cereal ran out before the comedy did.

But my favorite experience has to be High Plains Comedy Festival. A group of hilarious people come together to pretend we’re working and a community that supports it.

What do you know about Vail Comedy Show?

All I know is what I’ve heard from other comedians and they say good people, fun shows, better views. Looking forward to a new experience. As long as there’s people and a microphone, I look forward to introducing Vail to Puerto Ricans.

Any major events coming up?

I am currently in Season 2 of Netflix’s “Survival Of The Thickest” that premiered March 27. So please watch so I can afford to pay rent.

You live in New York City but tour nationally, how does Colorado compare to other markets?

For my money, Colorado comedy has nothing to envy. It’s a great market with people who appreciate good comedy but still not jaded. From Comedy Works (which is top 5 in the country, IMO) in Denver to the amazing room David Rodriguez has built in Comedy Fort to this Vail run, comics feel appreciated and not seen as a nuisance or afterthought. Colorado gets it.

How would you describe your comedy?

Like a good date. Some jokes, some stories, a touch of politics, light food and hopefully we close on sex.

What is next for Rojo Perez?

As I sit in this audition room to be the next Fanta boi, I’m excited for my second comedy album to come out in a few months and hopefully tape the new hour Vail will see, at the end of the year.

Mark Masters runs events year round in Colorado. Vail Comedy Festival will return Memorial Day Weekend with headliners Mike E. Winfield, Sarah Tollemache, Andy Haynes and Katie Hannigan plus dozens of other comedians from around North America.

All tickets are available at VailComedyShow.com.
