Carla Clay from San Francisco who is a regular at The Punch Line Comedy Club is headlining a pair of shows this week around Vail. Both shows will feature Steven Gillespie, a nationally touring headliner, originally from Minnesota who has appeared on “CONAN.”

Vail Comedy Show will be in the Lookout Bar at The Westin this Wednesday in Avon and in Sarah’s Lounge at Christiania Lodge at Vail on Thursday in Vail Village. Both shows will be hosted by the organizer of Vail Comedy Show and Vail Comedy Festival, comedian Mark Masters.

“We are coming off our biggest, and first ever weekend Vail Comedy Show ever and really excited about our slate of shows this ski season. So far, every one has sold out,” Masters said.

Masters met Clay in San Francisco last year at a comedy show in the basement of a Chinese speakeasy and was immediately impressed. When asked about visiting Vail and her four nights of comedy in Colorado Clay said, “I haven’t performed in Vail or anywhere in Colorado, but I’m really looking forward to spending time there. Until now, my day job has limited my visits to no more than three days.”

Despite never being to Colorado, Clay is no stranger to traveling for comedy. “I did a comedy show in London where I couldn’t understand a word the comedian was saying. So I just laughed when the table next to me laughed. That’s how I do international comedy-group participation.”

Steven Gillespie, a regular headliner at Comedy Works in Denver, will perform on both shows. “Steven is one of my favorites. He is so silly and fun, and real on stage. He runs a comedy show that tours around the country called The DOSE, which has a psychedelic theme. He makes these amazing tie-dyed hoodies which I’m betting he will sell at these shows.”

Vail Comedy Show has programming all ski season. In February, Eagle Witt from New York City will perform in Avon and Gypsum. Shows with Ray Harrington, Raanan Hershberg, Carmen Lynch and Eddie Ifft — all former stand-out Vail area performers — will round out the ski season. The Vail Comedy Festival will return Memorial Day weekend for three days of laughs with dozens of comedians.
