A Staffordshire Bull Terrier was apparently trapped in a nylon kennel similar to this one, and left to die under some bushes beside the Eagle River between Eagle and Wolcott.

WOLCOTT — A dog found dead in a nylon kennel by the Eagle River has police asking the public for clues.

Police were notified about 2:30 p.m. Thursday about the dead dog, a male Staffordshire bull terrier, black with a white patch of fur on its front neck. It weighed about 70 pounds. The green nylon kennel in which the dog was trapped was found along the banks of the Eagle River between Eagle and Wolcott, under some bushes.

Deputies with the Eagle County Sheriff's Office and Eagle County Animal Services found the dog and kennel when they arrived. They said it appeared the dog had been dumped. The identification of the dog and cause of death are still unknown.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Eagle County Sheriff's Office at 970-328-8500.
