Eagle County middle school teams collect league and regional titles

A pair of Eagle County middle school squads ended their respective seasons on a high note recently.

The St. Clare Catholic School’s middle school “Mustangs” pom dance team took first place at the National Cheer Association and National Dance Association regional championships in Highlands Ranch on Nov. 22.

In addition to St. Clare, the team is comprised of students from Vail Mountain School, Stone Creek, Vail Christian Academy and Homestake Peak School. Athletes included Hazel Rothenberg, Lilah Weisman, Kylie Crosbie, Anna Miller, Sophia Schaut, Charley Honkamp, Asha Gooch and Addy Graham. The Mustangs were coached by Rebecca Novak and Maddie Borel.



“We are so proud of the girls and their amazing accomplishment in winning first place at the NCA/NDA regionals competition,” Novak stated. “The girls were so excited to compete and their hard work paid off. We look forward to the 2026 season.”

Meanwhile, the Gypsum Creek Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team went 8-0, defeating Eagle Valley Middle School on Dec. 5 to win the Peaks League championship.

“I am so proud of Coach Bartlett and our boys. The community is really coming together to support GCMS, not just in sports, but in all walks of what we are doing,” stated Drake Brown, Gypsum Creek Middle School athletics and activities director. “It takes a village for schools to find success and this is a huge deal for us to keep moving forward towards bringing the best school experience to life for our community.”
