Why are you running for Town Council?

I was lucky enough to find Eagle in 2007, and in 2008 married my wife at the Brush Creek Pavilion. We have called Eagle home for the past 18 years and have been blessed with the opportunity to raise two daughters in such a wonderful place. This is why I am running for Town Council, so that these same opportunities are available for all of our children and current and future residents to settle down, make a life, and call Eagle home for generations to come.

What’s your plan for balancing continued growth and development in Eagle while preserving the town’s character and its scenic beauty?

Density should be concentrated in the downtown core, where both mass transit and businesses to serve a growing population are located, and all new developments should adhere to the Elevate Eagle Comprehensive plan to maintain building continuity and preserve the small-town character that differentiates Eagle from upvalley communities. By continuing to champion open space and trails throughout the community and surrounding hills, we can preserve our scenic beauty while creating synergy within the existing trails network and connectivity to and around town.

How can Eagle support local businesses and workers?

Capitol Street improvements and revitalization can add more parking in the downtown area and create better integration with the downtown core. We should continue to pursue a boutique hotel offering in Eagle to broaden our accommodations and increase visitation. Additionally, we need an increased willingness to support small events hosted by businesses and community members to attract locals and visitors alike. Eagle should embrace closing off a local side street(s) downtown or in Eagle Ranch to support art walks, craft fairs, small concerts, pop-ups and similar events to showcase its small-town character and increase visitation.

Many Eagle residents work in the upper valley. How do you propose to improve transportation infrastructure and manage traffic congestion as the town expands?

The scheduled Capitol Street improvements and planning for Grand Avenue improvements are a step in the right direction. Petitioning Core Transit for a connector route in Eagle so residents can more easily access mass transit would help with congestion, deliver workers to employment centers with fewer car trips, and increase Eagle’s sustainability footprint. Lastly, Town Council must be dedicated and disciplined to maintain and increase capital reserves for improvements on Grand Avenue and be open to an incremental approach directed towards traffic and congestion as first priorities.

What strategies would you implement to maintain affordable housing options for residents as rising property values continue to outpace area median incomes?

The town of Eagle has opportunities to increase collaboration with other municipalities and Eagle County on affordable housing, and we need to be willing to say yes to affordable housing projects in Eagle through annexation, rezoning and entitlements. We should also review our current affordable housing requirements for new developments to ensure that deed-restricted housing is affordable and attainable for our community members now and into the future. By working with willing HOAs, we can streamline the process to allow accessory dwelling units that can add housing inventory and help homeowners subsidize their own housing costs through rental income. Lastly, the town should create an affordable housing fund that is supported by revenue generated from Real Estate Transaction Fees from new developments. Moving forward, these funds can be used to start adding affordable housing stock now rather than having to wait for future development.
